Paint colours to avoid for small interior spaces

Choosing a paint colour for your small space is more than a tricky job. The aim should be to target such colours that build hopes of making the room look bigger.

To make the most of your room, it’s wiser to pick the right hue. With the right shade, even your tiny spaces can look lively and more spacious. Below is the list of some of the colours you should avoid to achieve the same. The key thing to remember is before you settle on your new paint colour, make sure you can live with it.

White

A uniform tone of peaceful white may seem like the perfect paint colour for a small room but that’s not the case. This dated idea that white brightens up dark corners and reflects light all around has thankfully been overturned. A small room painted all white can make it look boxy and bland especially when it reveals every shadow and dark corner prevailing in the space. With the unlimited palette of colours available at good paint brands, other soft colours like pewter gray can be a stunning choice. Plus, it can work better when white is added on as an accent or trim colour.

Muted Neutrals

Neutral paint colours can do wonders for small spaces. However, don’t limited yourself to using a neutral tone that’s too muted as it is only going to make your room look small and dark. Instead look for warm neutral colours that reflect light around the room. Another quick trick to make your neutral space look more spacious is to pair them with white trim and accents for open and uncrowded style.

Red

Red has been the go-to paint colour choice for spacious decors. However, the colour can go miserably wrong a small space. The major constraint with this colour is its enormously generated energetic vibes which can heat your small rooms and leave you feeling uncomfortable. Which is why red is often better left as an accent colour accent. Also, you can try toning-down the shade to rust instead.

Bright Colours

Bright colours are surely trendy but think twice before you settle for a shade just because it’s in. You also have to make sure it goes with your spaces. Funky, bright colours when popped entirely all over a small room can become tiring after a few years. The better solution is to pick something in a similar shade that you can be comfortable living with for a while.
